Less cords, everything works!Oct 26, 2009

PROS: - amazing space-saver - very portable, bring it just about anywhere - sleek modern design CONS: - didn't like the speeds on burning some media (DVD-RW) ========================================================
Just bought myself a netbook right before Windows 7 came out. It was a capable little system, so I decided to bring it up to Windows 7. I had the DVD and so I decided to pair it up with an external DVD drive - first to install the new OS, and for burning and DVD playback functionality as well.
As I said in my title, everything works. I bring my netbook around for surfing, doing quick notes, and now I can view that odd DVD movie when I'm in long trips or in idle times. This DIGISTOR is just what the doctor ordered. It doesn't need a separate power cord, so there's only the USB connection -- pretty handy and space-saving when I use it with my desktop as well.
I've burned all typs of media, it hasn't given me any "coaster" burns yet (bad burns), I just wish the DVD-RW speeds were faster, but other than that, it all works.
It's slim and sleek, I can carry it wherever I go, and it's pretty quiet too. I got the standard tray-load version, I don't know how noisy the slot-loading one is -- slot loading drives are generally noisier than standard tray loaders.
If you're looking for an optical drive that's a perfect netbook partner, look no further.
PS: I hear they have an external USB Blu-Ray drive too. Yep, I found it here -> DIGISTOR USB 2.0 Powered Blu-ray Burner (Slot-Load) External - might be worth checking out as well.

Would not work via USB hub with MacBook AirNov 19, 2010
By Gabrielle Zlotnik I am HIGHLY DISAPPOINTED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! in this feature of the product! It was advertised as the only one DVD-CD Drive that would work with MacBook Air via USB hub. The MacBook Air before the the very last model just released a month ago had only one USB port, so you have to use USB hub all the time you need to have your printer, external hard drive and camera plugged in all together. The Apple's original external DVD drive for MacBook Air does not work via USB hub either, but this product was advertised as it would. I would still use it, it is working fine otherwise, and it is cheaper then Apple's original external DVD drive.
Works as advertized,May 09, 2011

I love that this drive does what it does without needing to carry an AC adapter. That makes it a true "Pocket Product".
