I bought this to make a BSD or Linux NAS (no fans). The CPU runs cooler than the chipset. The 865 chipset uses DDR ram. The on-board NIC is an Intel Pro 100 VE. It doesn't work with FreeBSD and Centos. Cannot disable in BIOS, "blacklisted" the e100 module. Used a another NIC card instead. Otherwise, it works well enough.

If you are looking for a cheap, good motherboard, this is the board for you, it has all of the basic features to get you started, or if you're upgrading forrm an older version (windows 98 or ME) to Windows XP. wouldn't recommend this for Windows 7. Overall good board for the price, no complaints so far
