Yes, it's USB 2.0 PoweredOct 19, 2008

I recently purchased a netbook for my daughter that does not have an internal optical drive. I was looking for a compact USB 2.0 drive that could run off just the USB connection and did not require a separate external power connection. The I/O Magic drive fit the bill. It is about as small as you could imagine a tray-loading external drive could be. Mine has an all black plastic case and is very light. It has a second USB 2.0 connection for extra power (needed to burn discs), but runs off of a single connection just fine. I used a single connection to load MS Office Student and Teacher Edition to my daughter's netbook from a CD-ROM and it worked perfectly. I used both connections to watch a DVD and burn CD-ROMs. This drive definitely makes a netbook more useable.

The person who created this page made a big mistake. The model number IDVD8PE is wrong! The actual IDVD8PE has its own power supply, not powered by USB.
