I am in the process of setting up my new HP workstation server which has this processor in one of its two(2) slots. I see these 2.66 Ghz dual cores chips offered on eBay for about a twenty dollar bill; some with and some without shipping.
In reading parts of the HP manual I find, when the workstation has both processors slot filled, they don't need to be or have the same GHz rating. For my needs I would typically not need 4 cores active, but the advantage of having a high end workstation from about 3 years ago, is that it emphasizes expandability for its era, and even now aftermarket cards still accommodate the very many slots.
So, even though I own this processor I have little experience with it, so I am soliciting recommendations and contributions from Amazon buyers for the LGA771 platform.
