Great drive, Zero support from Kingston.Jan 14, 2010
By B. Lantto This is a great product.. or should I say could be a great product. Kingston is dead last in SSD support among the major manufacturers in my opinion. Go with the intel equivalent (X25-V) and never look back, the extra $10-$20 is well worth it. Kingston said trim firmware would be released for this drive and for the V+ line...ask them via email and you will find out that is probably not going to happen. I will repeat it again, BUY THE INTEL X25-V!! and you will not have to deal with Kingstons lack of support. Don't believe me? Go to their website and look at the support site for SSD's....no usable info and not even a forum to discuss issues. Absolutely horrid customer support!

check this out before looking at velociraptorsDec 18, 2009

PRO: affordable/speed ratio. is silly but this is feel and performs faster than my corsair p256 that i had on my desktop. i am running this drive on my e6500 dell laptop. i basically installed windows 7 64bit ultimate and then start adding all my apps to the startup folder, logged off and then back in and they launch like superfast and within seconds its done loading all my apps.
CON: slow write but still feels faster than my corsair p256. no trim support.... yet.
P.S.
this drive is rated 170MB read and 40MB write. but i ran benchmark with hddtune and was able to achieve 205MB read. i did not run write test because i'm using the free version of hdtune.

do not count on TRIM for this generation of drivesJan 14, 2010

"(much quicker with SSD)"
Pro: fast reads, Intel quality
Cons: 1. the Kingston TRIM carrot is imaginary. Despite being a rebadged Intel drive, "..there is no TRIM support for this drive and there is no update available for it. Our next generation SSD drives will have TRIM support."
2. Kingston support (try opening a service request using Kingston's website, you'd have to guess the correct product part number before you can submit the support request form).
Slow sequential write throughput (but this is not a surprise given this is 1/2 of an 80GB x25-m) - application start-up time on both Linux/Windows have greatly improved and *this* is what you'll probably most often.
I would recommend the X25-V over this one - it's only slightly more expensive but it comes with better support, TRIM and the 2.5" to 3.5" adapter.

Happy with itFeb 07, 2010
By Mike W. Ianieri I purchased Kingston 40 GB SSDNow V-Series Solid State Drive (SSD) SNV125-S2/40GB for a new netbook and have been impressed with its performance so far. It close to doubled the Windows 7 performance index over the hard drive that was installed and has made resuming from stand by a quick process. Installation was straight-forward and it quick to get everything loaded up and running.
IMHO...the future of consumer drivesJun 12, 2010
By T. Lack I actually own the 30GB that came with brackets to change a 3.5" bay into a 2.5" bay in a desktop. My computer case was actually made to fit 3 hard drives total, including the DVD drive, and I already have 3 drives installed. Since the SSD takes up very little space, it can be rigged to mount easily. In my case I was able to mount it vertically with just one bracket to add a 4th drive (I have 3 externals also).
This is NOT a typical hard drive install, as usually installing a new drive means you're putting a bigger drive in. This time you're most likely putting a smaller drive in. In my case I had to remove programs onto another hard drive and partition the drive until it could fit onto the new smaller SSD.
I use the SSD for my MBR/Windows XP and a number of apps only. So as with any drive, the better you can configure it, the faster it'll run. I use approximately 15.2 GB of the drive. The drive performs literally twice-as-fast as my other SATA and EIDE drives in boot/windows and app loading.
Let's count all the pros: 1. Cooler 2. Silent 3. No Defraging (virtually) 4. Compact 5. Faster 6. Low power consumption
Very satisfied with the drive myself.
