Great upgrade!Jun 24, 2010
By Paxton I replaced a Seagate 500 gig, 7200 rpm hard drive in my Asus G60jx laptop with this SSD recently, and it has proven to be a good decision. Benchmarks went up from 80 mbps to over 100 on serial reads and writes, and random reads and writes increased ten fold with smaller ones up to fifteen times as fast! Windows seven turned off prefetch and ReadyBoost because it was unnecessary with this drive. Boot up time from pushing power button to being able to pull up explorer or anything else is less than 25 seconds with Windows Seven 64. All "Hard Drive" related tasks such as virus scanning, update installs etc. are blazing fast now. I don't get the full specs when I benchmark, but that's somewhat due to having the SSD running windows as well. To make the change seamless, I bought an E-Sata Black Widow outboard hard drive enclosure and "Cloned" my Seagate to the new SSD using Acronis software I got from Best Buy. I then booted from the external drive to check all was fine, installed the new SSD in my laptop and that was that. All has been perfect since then. I now use the old Seagate in that external drive for storage and back ups. (Full, uncompressed backups take less than 8 minutes!) Total cost was about $280.00. Better than any other upgrade I could have done. PAXTON

Failed after 4 months, replacement drive failed tooAug 24, 2011
By av The drive was pretty fast while it lasted. Capacity is overstated; you're NOT getting 50GB of space, even with typical manufacturer's "creative" accounting where 1GB is 1,000,000B.
The drive failed after 4 month, which, judging by online data, appears to be a common problem with OCZ Vertex 2 line. RMA process is incredibly slow with a lot of redundant information requests and the ticket being bounced between 3-4 different support people. Still waiting on a replacement and my desktop has not been functional for the last 5 days.
OCZ should've recalled the whole product line, but apparently their approach so far is just to replace failed units one by one through unnecessary slow and painful process.
EDIT 11/26/2011. The replacement drive I received back in August failed too. As of now I don't think I want to trust my data to any OCZ product anymore. I'm requesting full refund from OCZ.

Ouch! Failed after a week!Jul 09, 2011
By RavenTechJeff The drive gave my system a huge bump in performance but failed after two weeks of use. No longer recognized by the BIOS, tried it in two systems and an external drive reader. The external drive reader did not even acknowledge it's insertion much less read it. Only gets a single star because I had to rebuild my system, a full day of lost productivity at work.

updated - failed after 4 monthsJun 08, 2011
By R. Suss Like the others reported, my drive died after 4 months. Working with OCZ to get a replacement, but still.. not recommended - pay a little more for a crucial or intel. Probably worth the extra few bucks for reliability.
Original review: This drive is working out great for me so far (it's only been a week). I'm using this on a windows 7 x64 desktop. I installed the drive, did a fresh install of win7 x64, installed my main applications, and I've been running fast and smooth. Installed on the drive are windows, chrome, numerous utilities that I use regularly(reader, 7zip, teamviewer, vlc, etc). After all that, I was at about 50% capacity, so it seems this size is fine as a boot / system drive.
Speeds are great. I'm not one who really goes nuts over the details of read / write times and benchmarking compared to other drives - ultimately that is a major time sink and you're just going to go nuts wondering you're not scoring the same as someone else. Anyway, apps pop open and boot time is super fast. The only x factor is reliability.. so far, so good, but time will tell. I did a clone of the drive after everything was set up and downloads / docs / pics are stored on a standard hdd, so I won't be too upset if this goes kaput.
I'm very pleased with this drive.

It's just fast, will not ever go back to HDD I will only use a HDD for archive storage. I will use SSD for the operating system / boot disk and applications that I use daily.
