4BETTER THAN INTEL STOCK COOLERApr 27, 2011
By LALTOO
Forget what you see on the web about how easy it is to install the intel 'push pin' cpu cooler. It does not always work that way.

This cooler is easier to install than the stock intel cooler with those 'push pins'.

It does involve a bit more work, because you may need to remove the motherboard to install the 'backplate', but overall I think it is 'sturdier' and less likely to come loose. I have had problems with installing the intel 'push pin' coolers, and do not use them anymore. The pins have come loose on at least one build I did, and many times it requires more force than I am comfortable with to get those 'pins' in place.

Many people, myself included, believe that Intel really messed up with the 'push pin' cpu coolers. I think they need to go back to the drawing board. Even AMD seems to have a better solution.

5Great value OEM intel 775 replacement CPU coolerMar 06, 2011

My HP workstation would not boot and had loud fan noise before turning itself off. Factory heatsink had separated from CPU plate because cheap OEM plastic mounts had broken (3 of 4). This fan was inexpensive and easy to install (which is good since there were no instructions!) and is extremely quiet... while cooling better than the original. The heatsink is bigger than the stock HP as well. Great buy for the money... Clean the old thermal compound off the CPU before replacing old cooler.

5Works very wellFeb 27, 2009

I bought this cooler for a 775 socket Pentium D 3.2 GHz processor, which tends to run really hot. The installation required a bracket behind the board, but was nice and solid. Temperatures are running well below the limit and the fan is remarkably quiet.

4Works great. A bit loudJul 27, 2007

I like this cooler/fan because it has screw on attachment rather than thos plastic pins you have to turn. This makes for a strong connection to the CPU and motherboard. Don't screw to tight, though- you don't want to crack it. It comes with a bit of thermal paste on the bottom of the fan (be careful not to touch it). I installed it on a Pentium D 805 2.66 MHz CPU. Those are the Core Duos, not the newer Core 2 Duos that run cooler by design. My idle CPU temp is about 41 degrees Celsius. I've used it to do some video editing/encoding in Sony Vegas. I think it went up to 53 degrees or at the most 57.
This cooler is a bit loud. That type of thing doesn't bother me. Because it is a four pin fan, my motherboard's sensor can control it. For example, it can shut the fan down if it stays below a certain temperature. In my mobo's BIOS I changed the setting to shut the fan off after 4 minutes into the OS startup. That worked for only 2 restart cycles. Now it stays on for a bit longer. However, I'm chalking that problem up to the operating system (Windows XP) and/or the motherboard (MSI 945 Platinum).

4Easy install. A bit noisy.Nov 19, 2011

Was a breeze to install (pun intended). A bit noisy when it runs (a quiet buzz,) but not objectionable. I did remove the thermal compound pad that came installed on it, and used the Arctic Silver 5 just to be sure of good heat conduction.
